Linux For Open Source CFD
Note. This linux image was build using SUSE Studio. This service will be shut down in February 2018, so this will be the last supported release until we transition to the new service (SUSE Studio Express). If you are new to Linux, and you do not want to go thru the hustle and bustle of partitioning your hard drive, backing-up your data, and installing Linux and all the applications for CFD, CAD, meshing, and visualization, we highly recommend you to use this Linux version based on OpenSUSE 42.1 with KDE 4 desktop. You can install this Linux version under Windows, Linux and MacOS using any virtual machine application, but we highly recommend you to use vmware player (there is a free version for Windows).
This Linux version was created with CFD applications in mind for CFD users. It comes with many CFD, CAD, mesh generation, visualization, numerical libraries, optimization, plotting applications, and text editors pre-installed. It also comes with all the compilers and libraries necessary to compile most of the applications.
In this distribution, you will find the following CFD, CAD, optimization, solid modeling, visualization, and meshing applications pre-installed in the cfd user directory: OpenFOAM 5.x, Salome 8.2.0, Dakota 6.6, ParaView 5.1.2, GMSH 3.0.1, OpenVSP 3.8.1, Meshlab 1.3.3.
For those interested in Python, you will find a full installation of Anaconda Python distribution. Anaconda Python is a completely free enterprise-ready Python distribution for large-scale data processing, predictive analytics, and scientific computing.
Additionally, you will find many applications useful for algebra, matrix manipulation, numerical methods, plotting, scientific visualization, programming, debugging, mesh generation and manipulation, image manipulation, and geometry generation. Among others: blender, cgns, ddd, gnuplot, gnu parallel, kcachegrind, nemiver, openscad, R, valgrind, xflr5.
For text editing, you will find emacs, kwrite, gedit, leafpad, and vi. For office productivity, you will find a full installation of libreoffice.
